Abstract

ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence application, has emerged as a promising educational tool with a wide range of applications, attracting the attention of researchers and educators. This study, which was selected for its ability to study in-depth the effects of artificial intelligence in a real educational context, aimed to investigate the use of ChatGPT in foreign language teaching, to explore the potential, advantages and disadvantages of this innovative approach, how the use of ChatGPT affects foreign language learning, to examine the impact of ChatGPT on various aspects of the foreign language learning process, including student engagement, motivation and skill acquisition, and to identify strengths, challenges and recommendations from students’ perspectives regarding the use of ChatGPT for foreign language learning. ChatGPT was integrated into the use of reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary skills. Students could use ChatGPT to generate ideas, stories, or write sentences related to current topics. Questions were developed that included the use, impact, benefits, drawbacks, and optimization of ChatGPT in language learning. The study revealed the effectiveness, positive, and negative aspects of language learning with the help of ChatGPT. The results of the study indicate that language learning with the help of ChatGPT has a positive impact on language skills. The findings indicate that ChatGPT has a positive impact on students’ learning experiences, especially in terms of writing, grammar, and vocabulary acquisition, and enhances motivation and engagement in various learning activities due to its versatile and accessible nature. These findings contribute to the effectiveness of using ChatGPT technology in foreign language teaching, and can inform educators and researchers in developing effective teaching strategies and curricula.
