Major Challenges of Tourism sector in Georgia and its impact on economic development of the country

Abstract

This paper discusses the major challenges of tourism sector in Georgia and its impact on economic development of the country. Georgia has been a growing destination for international tourism. Tourism has become one of the strategic directions of the Georgian economy.

The aim of this paper is to define which challenging areas are outstanding in Georgia, explore how this  process influences the international tourism flows’ formation. For this aim, the research objectives are to define the chalenging factors and to identify the aspects and the conditions for the promotion of sustainable and high-end tourism in Georgia. The research findings suggest that approximation to the European standards are the most important as well as implementation of more tourism researches which will minimize the negative influences and pay attention to to sustainable tourism management. The paper discusses the characteristics of tourism challenges in Georgia and the prospects of the development of sustainable tourism.
